The Ghana Journal of Sociology & Anthropology (GJSA), formerly the Legon Journal of Sociology, is the flagship journal of GSAA. It is managed under GSAA with institutional support from the Department of Sociology, University of Ghana.

The journal publishes twice annually and features peer-reviewed work in sociology, anthropology, and related social science disciplines, alongside contributor guidance and issue archives.

Scope

Key Information

  • Contributions must be original and not under consideration elsewhere.
  • Accepted contributions are reserved to the journal.
  • Articles should not exceed 8,000 words (including figures, notes, and references).
  • Research reports should not exceed 5,000 words.
  • Use footnotes (not endnotes), numbered consecutively.
  • Keep footnotes to an absolute minimum.
  • References should be listed alphabetically using the journal's examples.
  • In-text citations should follow the format (Author Year:Page).
  • Manuscripts should be sent as Word attachments by email.
  • Manuscripts are not returned to authors; submit copies only.

Submission Guidelines

The Notes to Contributors specify submission requirements for original manuscripts, reference formatting, citation style, and document handling expectations.

Ensure Originality
All contributions should be original and must not be under consideration elsewhere.

Apply Word Limits
Articles should not exceed 8,000 words, while research reports should not exceed 5,000 words (including figures, notes, and references).

Use Required Referencing
Provide bibliographical references in alphabetical order and use in-text citations in the form (Author Year:Page).
